Pro Mini Mal Features:

Profiled nose: The wide The nose on this mini mal introduces a more shortboard feel and allows tighter turns and steeper drop ins.
Shortboard width: Although still wide for most shortboards the 21 1/2 inch wide mid section allows this board to make very tight turns and aids rail to rail transitions. Whilst still being wide enough to pick up those waves.
Performance rail: The rail on this board is the same as most shortboards sharp at the back and a bit lower in middle sinking deep into the wave face giving you hold
Concaves: The slight single to double concave on the bottom is common in shortboards and is used here to keep projection in the pocket and momentum on the flatter sections of the wave.
Tail Options: The sharp pin tail offers great hold in steeper wave faces and gives you a easier subtle swing dynamic when turning. The semi squash tail offers a similar feel but, with enhanced stability.
Fin Set Up: This board comes as a thruster 3 fin set up (two sides and a center of equal height) in all sizes off the shelf models. Side fins are Fcs1or Fcs2 on PU boards and Future system on epoxylite boards.
Construction: Mini Mals come in either PU or Epoxylite construction. PU is the traditional construction of closed cell foam, stringer, fibreglass and polyster resin. Epoxylite is asuper lightweight open cell foam with stringer, fibreglass and epoxy resin to finish. Note all epoxy's are made abroard so custom option is not usually available.
Cloth: All boards feature 1 x 6oz + 1 x 4ozglass on deck and double 4oz underneath. With custom build we can add layers or change weights.

Pro

The Custard Point Pro Mini Mal is one of the most fun boards we make. Picture a hybrid surfboard half way between a mini mal and a shortboard. Perfect if you don't get to go surfing as often as you would like or you are just not quite ready for making the leap to a shortboard.

Tim shaped this beauty back in the early 90s for the more experienced surfers wanting an easier paddle, but still great performance. Now a staple board on the shelf in our shop and a firm favorite.

The first thing you notice about this board is the pointier nose. It introduces you to a shortboard feel allowing tighter turns and a more lively feel but, its not so thin as to take away all of the stability. Also to make up for losing some of the volume, it usually features a squash tail. This is used to increase the surface area in the tail which helps with stability and to catch those waves a little bit earlier than a shortboard could.

The Pro has a continuous rocker tip to tail which works great on steeper take offs. Its sits low in the water making this board go well if the waves get steeper or mushier. And with the thruster fin set up this board is very easy to turn, holding its speed with a real drivey feel. Perfect for rail to rail surfing.

The performance rails have a low harder profile just like a shortboard and also a single to double concave underneath increasing speed and pushing water onto those fins.

The Pro Mini Mal comes in sizes 7'0, 7'4, 7'8 and 8'0. And are available in both off the shelf and as a custom builds.
